Developing a good system of cybersecurity governance is a challenge that reaches all the way to the board and the C-suite. Good governance has become more than a best practice. It is a necessity for business sustainability.

The potential for loss is huge when data is accidentally leaked or systems are deliberately attacked. A large-scale data breach brings potential losses that include money, time, and reputation, and in some businesses, even failure when the market decides the management is unable to protect stakeholder interests. As boards and senior management assess their cybersecurity policies and practices, it is becoming clear that the quality of communication, reporting, and readiness to meet internal and external cyber threats is critical to remaining responsive as the threats evolve and change over time.
