Tech Startup Champions Crowd Sharing, Wins Excellence in Innovation Category Award

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA-A company that started as a two-man shop in a Sydney kitchen and now stands as one of Australia’s largest mobile technology firms has taken top honours at the 2016 Sydney City Regional Business Awards.

Mobiddiction won the Excellence in Innovation category award as part of the 2016 NSW Business Chamber Business Awards sponsored by the City of Sydney.

Mobiconnect powers the likes of ANZ Stadium, giving the crowd an interactive playground where they can share their experience with others, including features that make activities like competitions and social media sharing possible.

It most recently acted as the trusted advisor and navigator of the 2016 Sydney Royal Easter Show, using GPS and location based beacon technology in a mobile application to direct customers to parking, amenities and events.

Mobiddiction is the creator of Mobiconnect, a mobile first customer engagement platform that allows companies to manage their presence with easy-to-use innovative capabilities across mobile, desktop and wearable devices.

The category award recognises companies for significant contributions to their industry through the introduction or improvement of an idea, method, technology, process or application.

“To be recognised by the City of Sydney and NSW Business Chamber for Excellence in Innovation after five years of blood, sweat and tears is a truly incredible feeling,” said Mike Vasavada, co-founder and director of mobility solutions at Mobiddiction.

“My business partner Midu Chandra and I always believed that mobility as a sector was going to be impactful at so many levels – today, it’s one of the biggest focuses for companies as it is one of the key channels that directly impacts customer experience and innovation.

“Our brand essence is “move”, which comes from our desire as humans to explore and seek out the new. In everything we do, every piece of code we write, we ask how is this going to “move” the people, business and brands we work with.

“More importantly, it’s our experience and understanding of how technology can be used to bring customer experiences to life that truly sets us apart.”

Based minutes from Darling Harbour, the tech startup provides mobile solutions to 80 per cent of blue chip and government accounts in Australia.

Their customer engagement platform is one of four products the company offers its clients and accounts for 20 per cent of its yearly income.

The company has also earned around a dozen accolades in its short five-year history, including the AC&E Mobile category award in 2015 and three top honours at the Mobile Design Awards in 2015. They are also finalists in the upcoming India Australia Business & Community Awards.

>Lord Mayor Clover Moore said Mobiddiction was among a talented pool of small businesses operating in the Sydney region that took home top honours at the recent business awards.

“These awards represent the diverse mix of businesses in our local government area, which at the last floor space and employment survey represented 40 per cent of all jobs growth in metropolitan Sydney,” the Lord Mayor said.

“The incredible achievements of our many small-to-medium sized businesses are the absolute focus of these awards.

“As a sponsor of the NSW Business Chamber Business Awards, we’re giving local businesses and the people behind them an opportunity to showcase their innovative ideas to the rest of the state and learn from other business leaders.

“We look forward to celebrating their talents and capabilities on the state-wide stage this November.”

Nine businesses collected awards in the Sydney City regional awards program on 21 July, judged and staged by the NSW Business Chamber and sponsored by the City.

Mobiddiction will join an impressive list of Sydney-based businesses competing with businesses from across the state for top honours at the 2016 NSW Business Chamber Business Awards on 25 November.

The City is a proud sponsor of the state-wide Excellence in Small Business category award, and has recently boosted its sponsorship of the NSW Business Chamber Business Awards to create an expanded regional awards program.

The expansion will allow all local businesses from 2017 to enter the Sydney City Regional Business Awards whether or not they are members of a local chamber.

The Sydney City Regional Business Awards are held each year, with applications for the 2017 Awards opening in May and the finalists announced in July.
