Jessica Kimball Reimagines D&I at Mattel

Jessica Kimball is the Head of Engagement, Diversity & Inclusion at Mattel and has led company leaders in reimagining what D&I means at Mattel. The focus was turned to the powerful impact D&I can have on employees, job candidates, and children via Mattel's global brands. Jessica partnered with HR teams to embed D&I into existing people processes, empowered Employee Resource Group leaders to help activate employee culture initiatives, and increased ERG connections with brands. Jessica worked to extend external thought leadership initiatives by creating an "Inclusive Advantage" workshop that explores the value of D&I at work.

To strengthen a culture of D&I, Jessica adheres to two central keys to innovation: first, being open to inspiration from all sources, and secondly, being "scrappy" when resources are limited. For example, to better use internal representation data to prioritize efforts and track progress, Jessica and her team needed a D&I dashboard that could be frequently updated, combined data from multiple sources, and was cost-effective. Jessica partnered with the IT team to use an internal Business Intelligence tool to build a diversity dashboard for free.
