An avid skier and active mom, Sherri Macko has never lost her energetic spark, even after 27 years with American Airlines. Starting her career with American in reservations, Macko now finds herself directing the airline's supplier diversity program. Macko juggles her time between trade shows and conferences, where she forges relationships with potential suppliers, with the work of ensuring American's supplier diversity program gains visibility within the company. Relationships have been absolutely critical to Macko's success in balancing these roles. She advocates throughout the company to promote and report diverse spend and champion the program. She has also been able to engage commodity managers, bringing them with her to MWBE business events to increase American's presence and impact, and ensuring that American connects with potential MWBE suppliers who are most likely to fit the airline's needs. Her company is behind her: American Airlines has made a strong commitment to diversity, recognizing the importance of maintaining a supplier base that reflects an increasingly diverse customer base. The U.S. Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce-Southwest chose her for their "Excellence in Supplier Diversity Advocacy" award and the American Indian Chamber of Commerce, Texas gave her its "Advocate of the Year" award, recognizing the successful connection she's made between suppliers and American Airlines.
