Mishel Horta Builds DEIB on a Foundation of Purpose & Values at DHL Express Americas



As the Head of DEIB at DHL Express Americas, Mishel Horta has been leading the charge since 2021 to design and implement a progressive, multi-year strategy and framework aimed at enhancing engagement and awareness of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) across the region. This framework is tailored to each country of operation within the Americas and is backed by a team of cross-functional leaders who are also committed allies.


Building on this, Mishel has also crafted a formal Employee Resource Group (ERG) framework. This aligns with both DEIB and broader business strategies, paving the way for the introduction of ERGs across the region. Further, she spearheaded the implementation of Universal Design Guidelines, a significant step towards creating more inclusive physical workplaces for all.


The success of DEIB at DHL Express Americas stems from the company's purpose - to connect people and improve lives. This is achieved by living out the core values of respect and results. Mishel champions inclusion across diverse cultures, languages, and personal identities spanning over 57 countries and territories. She collaborates with leaders to create safe spaces where individuals can feel seen and valued through local and regional DEIB initiatives, workshops, and webinars.


Mishel also advocates for leaders in various countries to collaborate with local external organizations, further enhancing inclusion for a diversity of identities in the workplace.
