Sandy Cross Advances DEI as Shared Values at PGA of America

Sandy Cross, Chief People Officer at PGA of America, developed and deployed the organization’s first-ever Shared Values. It is a ‘by the people, for the people approach’ in which shared values are anchored in inclusion, equity, and diversity. She also developed and deployed PGA LEAD, an intentional effort to diversify the board rooms at the Chapter, Section, and National levels. Sandy believes that a vital aspect of any impactful governance model is to integrate leadership that is gender, racially and ethnically diverse and includes individuals with disabilities and other aspects of diversity, to effectively develop products and services that will authentically connect with the consumers PGA of America aspires to attract.

Some of Sandy’s strategies include requiring an inclusive leadership goal in every employee’s annual performance goals, and performance evaluation to encourage more thoughtful approaches to advancing a culture of inclusion. She offers the University of North Texas’ Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Access Essentials education course enterprise-wide and leverages the Diverse Slate Protocol, which requires the inclusion of qualified diverse talent in the final candidate slate for corporate roles.
