Marcus & Millichap, a leading commercial real estate services firm, is pleased to announce the appointment of Jan Coonley as Senior Vice President and Chief People Officer. In this role, Ms. Coonley will oversee all aspects of the company’s human resources activities, including systems management, employee engagement, performance enhancement, talent retention and acquisition, skills and leadership development, and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
Ms. Coonley brings a wealth of experience to Marcus & Millichap, having served in several high-profile HR leadership positions prior to joining the company in 2024. Most recently, she was a strategic and advisory partner at Heritage Bank of Commerce (HBC), where she served as Chief People and Culture Officer. At HBC, she was responsible for talent acquisition, leadership development strategies, and compensation and benefits management, and also served as the executive liaison to the HBC board’s personnel and compensation committee.
Before her tenure at HBC, Ms. Coonley was head of culture at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.’s consumer bank and held several key leadership roles at U.S. Bank, culminating as Vice President of Strategy and Transformation.
Ms. Coonley holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the University of California, Davis, and a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR®) designation. She has also completed executive education in Blockchain and Digital Assets at Wharton. Her board and leadership roles have included serving on the Chinatown Service Center Board in Los Angeles and the Step-Up Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Chapter.
